Lead Paint - Slowly phased out in the 1960s and 1970s, lead paint was ultimately outlawed in residential use in 1978. Consequently, all homes older than 1978 are suspect; however, there are many ways to mitigate lead paint and costs can vary. In recent years, the government has eased mitigation requirements to encourage lead compliance. The below sites provide additional information about lead paint safety ... you can even search property to see if it's been tested for lead paint.

Lexington sits just 10 miles northwest of Downtown Boston in Middlesex County, placing Greater Boston's financial, academic, and life-sciences corridors well within reach. Known worldwide as the site of the opening shots of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775, it pairs deep colonial heritage with one of the most competitive residential real estate markets in the region.
Lexington's residential fabric is organized around a dozen recognized sections: Lexington Center (anchored by the historic Battle Green and Massachusetts Avenue corridor), East Lexington, Meriam Hill, Follen Hill, Munroe Hill, Peacock Farms, Five Fields (known for its mid-century modern homes and an 8-acre community area), Turning Mill (a Neighborhood Conservation District of mid-century homes built 1955-1967), Six Moon Hill, Pheasant Brook Estates (a wooded enclave of spacious properties), Woodhaven, Liberty Heights, Great Meadows, and the Countryside section bordering Whipple Hill conservation land.
Lexington Public Schools serve approximately 6,748 students in grades PK, K, 12 with a student-to-teacher ratio of 10 to 1. Niche ranks the district #4 among Best School Districts in Massachusetts and #82 in the nation for 2025-2026, awarding it an overall A+ grade. Lexington High School (251 Waltham Street) is ranked #5 among public high schools in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report (based on 2024-2025 data) and #167 nationally, with an AP participation rate of 79%. According to Niche's 2026 rankings, Lexington High School holds a #4 position among Best Public High Schools in Massachusetts.
Lexington is served by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). MBTA bus Route 62 runs seven days a week from Alewife Station in Cambridge through Lexington to the Bedford VA Medical Center, while MBTA bus Route 76 connects Alewife to Hanscom Field and Lincoln Laboratory on weekdays (Monday, Friday). Both routes terminate at Alewife Station, which provides direct access to the MBTA Red Line subway into Cambridge and Downtown Boston. The town also operates its own Lexpress shuttle network, with Depot Square in Lexington Center serving as the central hub for all Lexpress routes and as a stop for MBTA routes 62, 76, and the 128BC Shuttle. By car, Route 2 and I-95/Route 128 are the primary highways, placing Downtown Boston approximately 25-35 minutes away under normal traffic conditions.
Lexington protects over 2,000 acres of conservation land woven through its neighborhoods. The Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, a Rail-Trail Hall of Fame inductee (Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, 2008), runs 10 miles along a paved, level former railroad bed from Bedford Center through Lexington Center to Alewife MBTA Station, serving cyclists, runners, and pedestrians year-round. Minute Man National Historical Park, managed by the National Park Service and protecting 970 acres across Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord, drew 993,124 visitors in 2025 and features the 5-mile Battle Road Trail linking historic sites from Meriam's Corner to the park's eastern Lexington boundary. Additional open space includes Whipple Hill, Joyce Miller's Meadow, Juniper Hill nature preserve, and the Great Meadows area.

Lexington draws executives, physicians, biotech and life-sciences professionals, software engineers, and university faculty drawn to the Route 128/I-95 technology corridor and proximity to Harvard, MIT, and major Boston medical institutions. The market is strongly seller-favored: inventory in early 2026 held at roughly 2 months of supply, and buyers paid an average of 102.7% of list price in 2025. Single-family entry-level pricing begins around $1.2M, while custom estate properties regularly trade from $2.5M to $5M+, reflecting the town's consistent position among Greater Boston's most competitive suburban markets.
